Chemical Peels

Utah’s Best Chemical Peels

Chemical peels have been a dermatologist’s secret weapon for several decades now, and for good reason — chemical peels are a safe and effective treatment that greatly diminishes skin concerns such as wrinkles, discoloration, and scarring. Chemical peels are a reliable treatment due to their versatility and effectiveness, allowing our patients to see a dramatic improvement to their appearance with little to no downtime. They can also be done on their own or combined with other cosmetic procedures.

If you are concerned about dull or damaged skin and would like to see a visible improvement to fine lines, acne, clogged pores, or hyperpigmentation, read on to see if a chemical peel is right for you.

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a treatment that involves applying an acid solution to the outer layers of the skin that causes it to exfoliate and peel off. This peeling process encourages new skin to grow, creating a fresh, new appearance. A chemical peel can treat the skin on your face, neck, or chest, and provide incredible improvement in your skin’s clarity, radiance, and texture. Plus, they can be done at different depths, from “light” to “deep” depending on the results you want.

What Skin issues do chemical peels treat?

Chemical peels are used to reduce fine lines around the eyes and mouth, treat wrinkles, remove sun spots, and reduce the appearance of these common concerns:

Acne scars and flare-ups

Hyperpigmentation

Signs of aging

Sun damage

Wrinkles

Scarring

Dull texture

Dark skin patches

We offer several amazing, customized peels to choose from with a variety of strengths and solution types. This helps us to better find a treatment catered to your individual needs, which we’ll go over with you at your initial consultation. Our medically performed chemical peels can be used to target specific areas of concern and speed up your individual results.

If a chemical peel is right for you, we’ll recommend a treatment plan that includes one or more of these treatments:

Skin Medica (Medical Strength Peels for lasting results)

Illuminize Peel – for mild skin concerns who want a “healthy glow”

Vitalize Peel – for mild to medium skin imperfections

Rejuvenize Peel – for moderate to severe imperfections

Eminence

Arctic Berry Peel – a rejuvenating skin treatment that uses natural ingredients to invigorate and refresh the skin

Skinceuticals (Medical strength peels to target specific conditions)

Pigment Balancing Peel – a highly concentrated blend of glycolic acid and vitamin C that improves damaged, hyperpigmented skin

Glycolic 20 or 30 Micropeel – exfoliates dead skin cells and refines skin texture

Salicylic Acid Peel – deep exfoliation

Gel Peel GL – improves hydration, elasticity, and cell renewal

Vitamin C Plus Peel – nourishes skin with anti-aging vitamins and replenishes skin

Micropeel Sensitive – a targeted treatment for sensitive skin

Types of Chemical Peels

Micro Peel

Micro Peel is a new, “no knives” technique that uses glycolic acid to remove the surface layer of dead skin cells to leave healthier, younger-looking skin. Micro Peel works on the principle of dermal infusion, where substances are absorbed through the skin and into the bloodstream to nourish and rejuvenate the cells.

The technique uses a “vacuum” action to remove the outer skin layer, replaced by new cell growth. Micro Peel gives an immediate glow because it works on both the surface and deeper layers of the skin at the same time. It also stimulates collagen production, which makes the face appear smoother and more youthful over time.

Advanced Corrective Peel

Advanced Corrective Peel (ACP) is a unique brightening and skin smoothening treatment. ACP utilizes phenylethyl resorcinol to improve the skin’s overall appearance on your face and body. ACP offers an excellent solution for complexions that are dull, uneven, or rough in texture.

It removes dead surface cells, stimulates collagen growth, and lightens dark spots while refining pores and reducing superficial lines on the face and neck. ACP is useful in diminishing hyperpigmentation caused by sun damage, pregnancy masking, or chloasma due to hormonal changes.

Micro Peel with Sensitive Solution

Micro Peel with Sensitive Solution is a skin treatment that uses specialized chemical peels to achieve anti-aging, rejuvenation, and skin resurfacing results. This peel is perfect for addressing fine lines, wrinkles, large pores, uneven tone, and age spots.

What makes this skin treatment different is that it is suitable for all skin types, even sensitive ones. This works by gently exfoliating the outer layer of the skin while leaving it hydrated and radiant. Micropeel with Sensitive Solution is also an effective treatment for blackheads and whiteheads because it can remove dead skin cells clogging up pores.

PCA Peel

PCA peel, also known as superficial peel, is a chemical exfoliation process that targets the top layers of the skin. This aims to improve the appearance of the skin through exfoliation. This not only leaves your skin feeling fresh and healthy, but it will help reduce acne scarring and hyperpigmentation, leaving you with clear skin.

This type of deep chemical peel can help repair aging damage that has occurred over many years due to overexposure to the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays. The peeling takes just a few hours to complete, and usually, there are no scars after healing.

What is a chemical peel process like?

Before your treatment, we’ll go over your expectations, review your medical history to ensure your safety, and clean your face prior to your peel. During treatment, you may feel a mild stinging sensation while the chemical solution is applied to your skin. After a few minutes of letting the solution do its job, a cool compress will be applied to soothe the skin. Depending on how deep your treatment is, a neutralizing solution may also be applied. This process takes around 30 minutes to one hour from start to finish.

After your treatment, redness and swelling is completely normal and will settle over time. We’ll give you specialized instructions on how to care for your skin, which includes a careful selection of ointments and moisturizers to protect your skin while it heals.

Now, the waiting period starts! Your skin will begin to peel and flake off over the next seven days, similar to a sunburn. You may have blisters that turn brown and crust away. Be diligent with sunscreen and avoid direct sunlight for several weeks after treatment. You should see your skin drastically improve over the next several weeks. A mild peel can be repeated at around four weeks until you get your desired results.

Am I a good candidate for a chemical peel?

One of the reasons we love chemical peels is because they are effective and safe for almost all skin types. While we tend to see the best results in our fairer-skinned patients, we also expect to see excellent results in a variety of skin tones, depending on skin concerns.

We will not perform our chemical peels if you’re currently pregnant or using Accutane or similar skin medications. We also may need to postpone treating patients who have recently waxed, gotten a sunburn, had laser treatments, or facial plastic surgery.

Do chemical peels burn?

Our experienced staff at Modern MedSpa is here to provide you with a comfortable and enjoyable experience. While our patients do not need pain relief treatments with chemical peels, comfort levels do vary from patient to patient and will change based on the type and the strength of acids used. Deeper treatments may feel more of an intense burn with our glycolic acid and salicylic acid-based peels.

How many chemical peels will I need?

How many treatments you have total will depend on your skin, desired goals, and the type of chemical peels or other procedures in your treatment plan. Our Modern MedSpa professionals will design a treatment plan catered to your needs. Some patients are happy with results after their first treatment; however, the most typical treatment plan includes anywhere from three to six treatments spaced out by every four weeks.
